Have you ever wanted to create your own costume? Now’s your chance to stretch your imagination with the guidance from experts. Join talented staff members from The Makehouse Co-op and the Royal BC Museum and craft the costume of your dreams. Bring old garments, fabrics, and embellishments to this adult-only upcycling event, where creativity and sustainability come together.

The event will be held on the third floor and feature interactive pop-up stations throughout the gallery. Explore stations dedicated to deconstruction, construction, and accessories, where you can get hands-on with your costume creation. Enjoy a vintage film in the Theatre, sip on a drink while wandering the galleries, and listen to insights from a self-taught costume maker. This event welcomes everyone, regardless of skill level.

What to Expect

  • After hours, adult only access to the museum.
  • Expert staff to inspire and assist you in creating your costume or accessory.
  • Light snacks included with your ticket. Drinks available for purchase.
  • Event tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available at the door.
  • Members receive early bird tickets and a 10% discount. Current members sign in. New members sign up.

What to Bring if you’re making a costume

  • Please bring a maximum of two garments to create your costume.
  • Thrifted clothing and clothing with holes are ok.
  • Please ensure all materials are clean and washed.
  • Hand construction will be used – hand sewing materials and glue guns will be provided

After Hours events are 19+. Two pieces of valid government-issued ID is required for entry. At lease one piece of ID must be a photo ID. All bags entering the museum are subject to inspection. Images may be taken at the event and may be used by RBCM for promotional purposes.
