See SUE and Angkor at Royal BC Museum before they’re gone
VICTORIA, BC — It is not too late to check out the feature exhibitions SUE: The T. rex Experience and Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia at the Royal BC Museum. These exhibitions will be leaving the museum in early January as the museum prepares to welcome new feature exhibitions later in 2024.
- Visit SUE: The T. rex Experience before January 7, 2024. Meet SUE, the most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus ever found and journey through Hell Creek, South Dakota, one of the most well-documented ecosystems from the age of dinosaurs. Learn how SUE survived their challenging and dangerous world, living to old age despite the odds.
- Experience Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia by January 14, 2024. Explore 120 unique artworks and artifacts from ancient Angkor, never before seen in Canada. Discover what science and contemporary technology has revealed about the ancient empire and how it has contributed to the enduring resilience of Khmer culture. This spectacular exhibition boasts original objects and a variety of interactive displays, audio clips and films. While you are here to experience the exhibition, make sure to see the IMAX® documentary under the same name, also ending on January 14.
Other exhibition updates include:
- Keep your eyes open for more information on the 59th year of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, on loan from the Natural History Museum, opening March 1, 2024. The world-renowned exhibition features exceptional images which capture fascinating animal behaviour, spectacular species and breathtaking diversity of the natural world.
- Dinosaurs of BC, created in-house at the Royal BC Museum, has been extended due to popular demand until April 7, 2024. Dig in to this modular travelling exhibition to learn about prehistoric British Columbia and “Buster,” the Iron Lizard of the Sustut River.
There is even more happening at IMAX® Victoria. Back by popular demand, see the action-packed Top Gun: Maverick, running Thursday through Sunday, December 22 to January 11. Note, there will be no Hollywood feature on Christmas Eve.
In early January, IMAX® Victoria will also be featuring:
- Flight of the Butterflies: January 7 at 10 a.m. (sensory-sensitive screening)
- Follow the journey of monarch butterflies through not only miles but generations across a continent.
- Shackleton—Greatest Story of Survival: opening January 15
- In 1913, Sir Ernest Shackleton set sail with 27 men to attempt to cross Antarctica on foot. Join explorer Tim Jarvis on reliving Shackleton’s harrowing journey.
