Royal BC Museum and Archives to Launch New Archives Web Interface

After much preparation, dedication and hard work, The Royal British Columbia Museum and Archives is delighted to announce that a new Archives web interface will launch on August 4th, 2015.

We are moving to a system called AtoM (Access to Memory), one that many researchers might already be familiar with. AtoM is web-based archival description software that was originally commissioned by the International Council on Archives to make it easy for archival institutions worldwide to put their archival holdings online. It is a system widely in use at many archives.

After August 4th, instructions for searching will be posted on the Royal BC Museum website, but if you have any questions in the interim regarding searching and locating records, please call the reference phone number: 250-387-1952 (Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm).

It is a new system for us and has been a big change, so we appreciate your patience as we work with AtoM. There may be changes to how you have searched in the past; as always, we will be happy to assist you if you have questions or concerns. The search site that users are familiar with will continue to be available until September 4th, 2015.

To find the location of records and to determine if restrictions apply, it will still be necessary to contact an Access Specialist, either by telephone or the inquiry email: access@royalbcmuseum.bc.ca.
